Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag is just a silly idea. Who do they think they are? The only pirate game series that ever needs to be made was already made 23 years ago. I bet there wont even be pointing and clicking or matching items together or a rubber chicken with a pulley in the middle. you know. Pirate stuff.
Seriously though, I’m not really feeling this game. I’m not a fan of the Assassin’s Creed series as a whole; I’ve tried to play the first one a few times, and even though I love the aesthetics, I just don’t like playing it at all. Still, I just don’t think the pirate setting works for it. More accurately, I don’t think that Assassins creed is the right outlet for the awesome a triple A pirate game I want. The most important aspect of the pirate theme, even more than grog or pieces of eight or insult sword fighting, is absolute freedom. In a pirate game, I want to be able to do anything I could ever want to do. I think there is too much structure in Assassin’s Creed to properly facilitate this. Once again though, I haven’t played much of them, so take everything with a grain of salt.
Also, if you haven’t already done so, Play Monkey Island. Play it and love it, if only to hear one of the greatest theme songs in video game history.
